We've revised our Waste Management Policy to guide how Council provides waste services. The Policy includes information from and replaces previous waste bin and charges policies adopted in 1994 and 2020. You can view the Policy in the document library.
The draft policy includes guidance on:
- Applying the Domestic Waste Management Charge and other service charges,
- Inclusions of the Domestic Waste Management Service and Commercial Waste Services
- Provision, maintenance and servicing of waste bins
- Provision of caddies and liners for the food organics service
- Provision of the bulky waste service
- Services provided at the Maitland Resource Recovery Facility (MRRF)
As part of the Policy, there is a proposal to change the opening hours of the Maitland Resource Recovery Facility (MRRF) from 1 March 2025. The current open hours for the MRRF are 8.15am to 4pm with last entry from 3.45pm. It is proposed to change the open hours to 8am to 3.30pm with last entry at 3.15pm. The MRRF is open seven days a week except for Christmas Day and Good Friday, and this will not change under this proposal. The proposed change in operating hours is to allow additional time at end of day for staff to adequately cover up all waste and to meet our obligations under the Environmental Protection Licence for the site.
