James Street Reserve in Morpeth is an elevated and picturesque reserve wedged between residential housing in Morpeth and currently used as a passive recreational space.

The landscaping plan seeks to enhance the current sites' amenity, meet community needs and preserve the viewing corridor.

We heard firsthand from residents about their love for the open space and views of the rural lands, as well as how the space is currently used. We received lots of great ideas and suggestions for the space and how it could look and function in the future.

The top three elements respondents said they would like to see included as future activities and facilities were:

  • seating
  • a community garden
  • small tree planting.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their ideas via the online survey or popped in for a chat at our onsite pop-up. Your input was invaluable in developing the final concept plan which was endorsed by Council in July 2023.

Council officers are working to progress this project to detailed design and have put forward this project for funding in the 25/26 capital works program. A detailed design is expected to be completed by June 2025.
