Walka Water Works is a priority hub for Maitland and a much loved community space. We're taking the time to create a holistic and sustainable plan for the ongoing management of the site for future generations to enjoy.
As part of the planning process for the remediation, restoration, and revitalisation, Maitland City Council is reconnecting with the community to hear their vision and ideas for enhanced uses and the site's future.
Thanks to everyone who shared what they love about Walka and their ideas for improving the site. We're currently reviewing this information to develop a plan for its future.
Background
Reconnecting with Walka Water Works
Walka Water Works is a heritage listed complex set on a reserve of 64 hectares. The former industrial site, owned by Crown Lands, has been managed by Maitland City Council since 2007.

Planning to remediate, restore and revitalise Walka Water Works
Council have appointed Ramboll Group as the Principal Planning Consultant to complete detailed planning for the remediation, restoration and revitalisation of Walka Water Works.
Ramboll will complete the necessary studies, reports, drawings, specifications, and other required documentation. Ramboll will coordinate the planning process, using specialist and technical consultants to support the work.
