Aquatic facilities play an important role in our community, supporting physical and mental wellbeing while providing a safe space for learning, recreation and connection. They are home to Learn to Swim programs, squad training, lap swimming, swimming carnivals and more.

With Maitland's population set to reach over 144,500 by 2041, we're planning for the provision, development and management of our aquatic facilities to ensure they meet the changing needs of our growing community.

From January to May 2023, we asked what you love about Maitland’s aquatic facilities and what's important to consider for future planning. We received over 1,700 contributions across an online survey, pop-up events and stakeholder workshops. To find out what we heard, view the engagement snapshot in the document library.

This feedback will help shape our draft Community Infrastructure Strategy (CIS), our long-term guide for community infrastructure provision, which will go on public exhibition in December 2025. An Aquatic Centres Network Supporting Plan will also be prepared as an internal resource for Council officers and aquatics staff.
